BBC Film at Weir Wood

Getting ready to go sailing
Alistair Appleton and his team from BBC One's Escape to the Country television programme visited Weir Wood Sailing Club for a quick sailing lesson on Friday 11th July. Alistair was helping prospective buyers Rob & Lucy find their dream home in the country. Rob and Lucy had not really sailed before and felt they would like to have a taster lesson to see if they would like to take up the sport. After a quick safety briefing and a land drill they took to the water under the watchful eye of our Commodore.

Safety Briefing by Allan Jones
Tony was supported by Allan Jones, Ken Stone, Dick Lancaster and Photos were taken by Charlotte Carter. All kept a check that everything went to plan. The wind had been building throughout the morning and by the time they were on the water it was blowing a good top-end of a force 4 and at time gusting force 5. Tony and Allan decided to put in a reef as they had beginners in the boat, this kept things under control and made the sailing more comfortable.

Alistair at the helm
After a short series of tacking demonstrations on the water Alistair, Rob and Lucy all had a go at the helm each completing a series of tacking manouvers. Their sailing experience will be shown later this year on BBC One's Escape to the Country, so keep a watchful eye open.
