BBC Inside Out Filmed @ Weir Wood

Filming on the Water

The line is about here
On Thursday 4th February on a not so chilly afternoon the BBC returned to Weir Wood to film a piece for their Inside Out programme. Weather presenter Kaddy Lee-Preston and her team were preparing a film as part of her walk along the Meridian Line from Greenwich to the Coast.

The Meridian Line cuts right across our reservoir from the North to the South shores. On the North shore approximately between Buoys 4 & 6 to the South shore just up from Buoy 3.

This is the second time that the BBC have been to film at Weir Wood. In July 2008 they filmed a sequence for their Escape to the County programme.

With the success of that session Weir Wood assembled the same team for Kaddy. She has not had a great deal of sailing experience, doing a small amount as a child, but she took to the water like a true professional under the careful guide of one of our senior instructors Tony Carter.

The conditions were ideal with the weather having warmed up to around 8 degrees compared to the freezing conditions the week before. However the water temperature was still quite low at around 3 to 4 degrees, which made dry suits essential.

After an initial introduction to the Laser 2000 Kaddy and Tony took to the water where they sailed to and along the Greenwich Meridian line, Landing Kaddy on the South shore were she was able to continue her walk to Lewes and then the coast.

The programme goes to air on Monday 22nd February at 7:30pm on BBC One as part of their Inside Out series. Unfortunately this is a regional magazine programme and you will need to be able to pickup the South East transmission. If you are unable to do this all is not lost. It will be available on BBC iPlayer over the internet and we will be posting it on this website as well.

Unfortunately the programme is no longer available to view on BBC iPlayer.
