Windsurfing at Weir Wood

Newcomers to windsurfing are welcome at WWSC to join with the regular windsurfers, some of whom have been sailing on the reservoir for many years. It provides an excellent sailing area particularly when the wind is coming directly down the lake from the west or from an easterly direction from the dam allowing plenty of water for reaching across the width of the lake at the easterly end. It is also a safe area for windsurfing in so far as if you experience any difficulties you will inevitably come ashore somewhere. There is plenty of suitable space for rigging and access to the water is easy. “Oppy Bay” provides an excellent sheltered area for beginners to get to grips with the sport. You can, as with dinghy sailing, enjoy sailing during the week during unsupervised hours. Windsurfing members enjoy reduced annual subscription rates and are currently not required to undertake club duties unless they volunteer to do so.
