Cruising

Crossing the North Channel to Osbourne Bay IOW

Hamble River
Meetings of the Weir Wood Sailing Club Cruising Section take place on the first Saturday in each month.

These meetings are for cruising on the reservoir, talking about what we want to do, where to go and for comparing rigs and features on boats, working out how we can make even better use of our pride and joys. I am still hoping to make a day and a night of it by camping on board, anyone up for that?

We have a diary of dates for 2012 when we hope you will be able to join us, either on a day trip somewhere or for a longer two or three day adventure as the mood takes us. Let me know if you have an ambition to sail Ullswater (Swallows and Amazons), or the Norfolk Broads or to go to the Isle of Wight, which we have done twice before, see the Cruising Logs page.

These are the dates, we have avoided Bank Holidays and in particular the Olympics Sailing weekend at Weir Wood on 21/224 July.

Date Cruise Venue

21st & 22nd April TBC
19th & 20th May TBC
23rd & 24th June TBC
14 & 15th July TBC
18th & 19th August TBC

These dates do not yet have destinations assigned, so if you would like to join us, send me an email on cruising@wwsc.org.uk and I can advertise a trip and assemble a cast of crews and boats and I will provide the basic organization.

There are a few things you need to consider if you wish to join us for one of our coastal cruises.

If you want to come on a coastal cruise, you will need to have sailing experience to at least RYA Seamanship Skills Level or accompany someone who has that level of experience and be confident sailor in a suitable boat. Note that we do not take a safety RIB with us, we do however take all reasonable steps to avoid risks including sailing in company, cancelling at the last minute if the weather is in any way not optimum. All boats should demonstrate to have adequate buoyancy; everyone should be appropriately dressed for where we are sailing and for the conditions. Each boat should have at least one mobile phone in a waterproof pouch (e.g. Aqua Pac). Where appropriate if going off-shore we will have VHF radios with us.

Please contact, cruising@wwsc.org.uk directly and let us know you can make it.
